Poland's PM states US is ready for deployment of troops to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, stated on Tuesday that the United States is prepared for a potential deployment of its troops to Ukraine as part of postwar security arrangements.

Speaking after a meeting involving European and Canadian leaders, Tusk said Washington’s guarantees for Kyiv following a peace agreement could “include the presence of American troops along the contact line between Ukraine and Russia,” according to reports.

He highlighted that these declarations are among the first of their kind, adding, “We will see how consistent our partners on the other side of the Atlantic will be.” Tusk expressed cautious optimism about the prospect of peace, noting that it appears possible in the coming weeks, but emphasized that certainty remains far from guaranteed.

The Polish premier also stressed that Ukraine may need to make compromises regarding territorial matters, asserting that any such decisions must have the consent of the Ukrainian people. He added, “It is obvious that this possible consent must be conditional on real, reliable security guarantees for Ukraine after the possible conclusion of peace.”
