Ukraine requests more than one hundred million dollars from Poland
(MENAFN) Ukraine has formally requested approximately $131 million USD loan from Poland to fund the purchase of weapons produced by the Polish defense industry, according to statements made by the country’s foreign minister in a recent interview.
The minister emphasized that specific Polish-made systems, including the Piorun man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) and the Krab self-propelled howitzers, have demonstrated high performance in active combat. Because of their proven effectiveness, Ukraine is prepared to procure more of these systems for its military operations.
"This was one of the topics discussed with Mr. Sikorski, specifically the possibility of securing a loan. Using this credit, we are ready to purchase products from Poland's defense sector. Poland has strong traditions in defense manufacturing, and we are open to acquiring this equipment," Sybiha said.
The requested loan, as confirmed by the official, would total €120 million.
He explained that during a recent conversation with the Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, the two sides also examined future military assistance packages from Warsaw. Ukraine, he said, consistently outlines its frontline needs and operational priorities to its international allies.
"The enemy will feel the results of these decisions on the battlefield, in the effectiveness of our troops," he said.
Beyond the immediate arms purchases, Kyiv is also exploring avenues for joint defense manufacturing with Poland. Discussions are reportedly underway regarding the co-production of military equipment on both Ukrainian and Polish territory.
"This is a shared interest, a mutually beneficial one, and a contribution to our common future," he added.
